Living With Brittle Asthma
12. Living With Brittle Asthma

My name is Joey, I'm twenty-six, I'm a published author. I write teen crime novels, so far I've completed six and am currently working on my seventh - a different type of book, but I'm hoping my "fans" will like it. I live with three chronic conditions, type one brittle asthma (BA), M.E/CFS and Fibromyalgia (FMS), because of them I am in a wheelchair full time and am, at present, waiting to be moved to more appropriate flat as the one I live in now is only one bedroom and my carer and her daughter sleep on the floor/sofa, they have eighteen months because after that the place I'm living now will be knocked down! My aim is to start a charity for BA sufferers for research into effective drug therapies and support for those who also suffer with the conditon as there is very little out there in terms of either one of those. The aim of this blog is to show what it's like to live with BA and help educate people who want to be educated and help those who also suffer with either type one or type two realise that although it may feel like it, they are not alone.

RNID Typtalk
17. RNID Typtalk

There are an estimated 450,000 deaf, hard of hearing, speech-impaired and deafblind people in the UK that cannot use a standard telephone. For them textphone communications provides a vital lifeline along with TextDirect and Typetalk. By making calls through TextDirect textphone users have automatic access to the Typetalk Relay Service, the new TextDirect Relay service for people with communication difficulties. Along with access to Typetalk TextDirect converts ringing and busy tone into text messages, which are displayed on the textphone display and allows the telephone companies to provide a text rebate.

So we thought it was time to share our knowledge and experiences with others. We will cover all the areas that we have experienced and hope that by sharing this information it will provide those in a similar situation with some guidance.

The dogs alert by touching the owner with a paw then leading to the source of the sound. For alarm sounds including the smoke alarm and fire bell, the dogs alert by touch then drop straight to the floor to indicate danger. Sounds the dogs alert to include the doorbell, alarm clock, cooker timer, telephone and baby cry. Further Information: The dogs are free to applicants. Minimum age for application is 18; no maximum age. The Charity is also running a pilot project placing hearing dogs with deaf children.
