2. Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
We train dogs, mainly selected from rescue centres, to alert severely and profoundly deaf people to everyday household sounds. The dogs alert by touching the owner with a paw then leading to the source of the sound. For alarm sounds including the smoke alarm and fire bell, the dogs alert by touch then drop straight to the floor to indicate danger.
Sounds the dogs alert to include the doorbell, alarm clock, cooker timer, telephone and baby cry.
Further Information: The dogs are free to applicants. Minimum age for application is 18; no maximum age. The Charity is also running a pilot project placing hearing dogs with deaf children.

4. RNID Typtalk
There are an estimated 450,000 deaf, hard of hearing, speech-impaired and deafblind people in the UK that cannot use a standard telephone. For them textphone communications provides a vital lifeline along with TextDirect and Typetalk.
By making calls through TextDirect textphone users have automatic access to the Typetalk Relay Service, the new TextDirect Relay service for people with communication difficulties.
Along with access to Typetalk TextDirect converts ringing and busy tone into text messages, which are displayed on the textphone display and allows the telephone companies to provide a text rebate.

5. SignHealth
We are The Healthcare Charity for Deaf People, working to bring equality to health and healthcare for deaf people. We work with the healthcare providers, NHS etc. to improve access and services for deaf people; we also provide services such as supported living, advocacy, outreach and counselling and health promotion for BSL users. SignHealth also works to improve access to better communication in the care pathway for deaf people through SignTranslate - a web-based portal providing on-line interpreting, subtitles, pictures and BSL clips.

6. Sounds Right
Sounds Right is a voluntary self help organisation based in Scunthorpe. It works with people with a broad range of hearing impairment together with their families, carers and friends.

The British Association of Teachers of the Deaf (BATOD). BATOD deals with all professional aspects of the eductaion of deaf children and their teachers. This folder holds information about the projects that BATOD is or has been involved with, the meetings that representatives attend and the range of responses to government papers and consultations.
