We are a group made of local people that are concerned about the area we live in and how it effects other disabled people. Most of our members are disabled and give some of their spare time volunteering to help other disabled people. Our aim is to assist disabled persons to have equality of access. We work with various organisations, including the local Council planning department directly and via our subgroup the Access and Planning Review Forum (APRF). The subgroup is a public meeting held at least once month. Along side the LBBD Access Officer and assistant Access Officer, we examine plans to help ensure they meet the law and disabled persons needs.

7. Chelmsford Area Access Group

Chelmsford Area Access Group actively promotes access to all buildings and services. We represent the interests of people in and around the Chelmsford area who are disabled or who find access difficult. The Group is a Registered Charity, Number: 1040911 Although our primary focus is to support disabled people, we believe that improving access to buildings and services is in the interests of all people. For example, a fit young man with a broken leg would have difficulty with a long flight of steps - and so would a mother with a pushchair! If you have experienced a problem getting into, or using, a shop or public building please complete the Report Form on the site and we will look into it for you. Contact: caag@lycos.co.uk

8. Ashford Access Group

Ashford Access Group was first discussed in 1995/6 and really started working in early 1997. The group, or forum, was formed to represent disabled people in trying to obtain better access - on our highways and footpaths as well as entering buildings and moving around within them.
We are in consultation with Ashford Borough Council and have already proved that by working with them we can improve existing access and also ensure that new developments are 'disabled friendly'. The Group is the only one recognised and approved by the Council to advise it on matters of disabled access.
