1. Action For Kids

Action For Kids is a national charity helping children and young people with physical disabilities and learning disabilities. We transform young lives not only by supplying wheelchairs and mobility equipment, but by providing real opportunities for work and training.
We provide mobility equipment to children and young people up to the age of 26. We raise funds to supply equipment that is not normally available on the NHS, such as sophisticated powered wheelchairs which enable the user to stand up or travel long distances. Unlike other charities, we don’t merely supply the equipment: we also offer a maintenance and repair program to keep wheelchairs in tip-top condition.
Action For Kids provides work related learning and office experience for young people with physical learning and difficulties aged 14 – 26. Students come to our head office to do real work in a real workplace. We also offer an Outreach program, teaching work related learning in special needs and mainstream schools.
Our Family Support Services department provides a Helpline for families, providing practical advice or just someone to listen and understand. The Action For Kids Helpline: 0845 3000 237.
Action For Kids relies entirely on voluntary funding, so we need every penny that is kindly given to us by private individuals, corporate donors & charitable trusts. Please give generously and give a disabled young person independence today.

2. Association of Wheelchair Children

Association of Wheelchair Children provide wheelchair-using children with free training to enable them to become independently mobile both in and out of doors on a national scale across the whole of the UK.
Owen McGhee, Chief Executive and Head of Therapy at AWC, points out that the training courses also benefit parents/carers and siblings. 'We actively encourage the whole family to attend courses. As well as teaching essential skills to the wheelchair-using child, we like to make our courses as fun and family-inclusive as possible by getting the whole family involved in various wheelchair sports games. It is often only by attending the courses that parents and siblings can see the full potential that their wheelchair-using child can reach. After attending the course, parents and sibling can then carry on helping and encouraging the practice and development of key skills that are taught on the courses. These skills include back wheel balancing, negotiating kerbs and slopes, negotiating stairs and escalators and road safety.

3. AYME - Association of Young People with ME
AYME(pronounced ‘aim’) is the largest charity for children and young people with ME/CFS, with over ten years of knowledge and experience about how this illness affects children and young people. We offer a website full of information on the illness itself, education and benefit matters, as well as medical options available. We also have a helpline with experienced staff ready to take your call, as well as an online community to meet others and share experiences.
Friendship is key within AYME, we know how important it is to have good, understanding friends and how much chronic illness can affect that. This is why AYME offers lots of friendship-supporting services like an online community, pen pals, e-mates, buddies and local get-togethers, all run by other young people with ME/CFS. They are all under 26 and have probably been through similar situations as you. Members also get a bi-monthly magazine packed with young people’s news and views. You can choose to get involved or just enjoy reading and listening to what others are getting up to.

7. Jodie Beaumont's Fundraising Appeal
Jodie was born 13 weeks prematurely and is disabled. She has Cerebral Palsy, Hydrocephalus and Epilepsy. Parents of children with Special needs have to fight hard to get the education their children deserve. Our LEA has closed all schools but one and considers this school adequate, despite clear documentary evidence that this is not the case. Parents are forced into a tribunal system that claims to be independent, and must fund the fight themselves. We are forced to fund raise endlessly, to place our children in a school outside the LEA area, that has a proven track record in improving the lives of children with Cerebral Palsy, allowing them to fulfil their potential in life.
