Disability Awareness UK |
| Disability Awareness - although SVA has been involved with all types of disability since 1963 we have now changed our title to Disability Awareness. We started this action 8 years ago working first in Chichester and spreading to the whole of Sussex, Hampshire, Croydon and parts of Surrey.
We recruit young disabled - including blind and train them in public speaking, confidence training and allocate them to an experienced speaker. when they are confident they speak in schools. Age is no barrier, as some of our speakers have previously had good work experience we encourage them to make their own contact and where there is a 'group' based in one area we make bids for grants to enable them to have a shared base to work from. problem is we are all volunteers and need funding for a full-time executive officer to take over Fund-raising and Events.
